Are you currently in the dating game? Looking for a way to up your ante and boost your appearance? Then it may be time to put your smile under the old microscope. If you are dealing with missing teeth, chances are good you are rather embarrassed by your smile. Fortunately, our New Haven, CT, prosthodontist, Dr. Franceso Maratta, can turn all this around for you. Find out how dental implants could revamp your dating appeal.

A dental implant may not look like much of anything but this small metal post actually takes the place of your missing tooth roots. While the roots may not seem like an important component, you would be surprised just how necessary they are to a healthy smile. After all, without tooth roots the rest of your teeth will shift out of alignment to fill the gap left over by your missing tooth. Furthermore, the jawbone will also start to deteriorate, which can alter the structure of your face.

Once you are deemed a good candidate for implants the first step will be to place the implant into the jawbone. First and foremost our New Haven dental implant specialist will need to drill a small hole into the jawbone where the implant will be placed. This entire surgery can easily and painlessly be performed under local anesthesia. Once the implant is in the jawbone we will stitch the gums back up and allow your mouth ample time to heal.

During the healing process, a rather extraordinary thing will happen: the implant and the jawbone will naturally meld together to become one. This can take a few months for this to occur. Once the jawbone and implant have completely fused together, we can complete the rest of the implant procedure.

The next step is to open up the gums once more and place another structure known as an abutment over the implant. The purpose of the abutment is to be able to link the implant with the dental crown or other restorative prosthetic. If you only need to replace one tooth then a dental crown will be all that’s needed, but if you want to replace multiple teeth, several implants will be placed along the jawbone to support partial or full dentures.

Once the abutment is placed and the gums have healed we will then place the dental crown or other dental restoration over the implant to complete your new dental work.

Call our New Haven, CT, prosthodontic specialist, Dr. Maratta to discover whether you are an ideal candidate for dental implants. Tooth loss should never have the final say when it comes to your smile.
