Tooth loss can make your life more difficult in several ways—eating becomes harder, and depending on the number of teeth you've lost, speaking clearly can become challenging. The loss of a tooth can also be a blow to your self-esteem, prompting you to avoid social situations. Fortunately, dental implants offered by your New Haven, CT, dentist, Dr. Francesco Maratta, can restore your smile.
Dental implants offer total tooth replacement
Implants replace missing teeth by combining synthetic roots with artificial crowns. Titanium posts serve as the replacement roots and bond to your jawbone during a six-month period. Once these implants become securely attached to your jawbone, your New Haven dentist makes an impression of your mouth. The impression is used to create the dental crowns that will be attached to the tops of the posts with tiny screws.
Dental implants can replace any number of missing teeth and can even secure your dentures.
Worried about comfort? Implants may be the perfect option for you
Your new tooth may be artificial, but it functions just like your natural teeth. Because dental implants are attached to your jawbone, your new tooth doesn't slip when you move or irritate your gums.
Implants also offer exceptional biting power and allow you to easily chew food. The restorations feel very much like your natural teeth and are a good choice if you want a comfortable tooth replacement option.
Implants can help you maintain your oral health
Dental implants offer several important advantages for your oral health, including:
- No Tooth Movement: Your remaining teeth may drift and shift after you lose one or more teeth. As a result, your bite may change, or you may find it difficult to remove cavity-causing plaque from overlapping edges of teeth. Implants prevent your teeth from moving, protecting your bite and reducing your tooth decay risk.
- Strong Jawbone: Your jawbone can weaken when it no longer receives stimulation from tooth roots of lost teeth. As the bone shrinks, your appearance may change and your teeth might loosen. Implants take over for your natural roots and provide constant stimulation for the bone, helping you avoid these tooth loss consequences.

Our metal-free implants provide a safe and effective tooth replacement.
If you are an adult who is missing one or more teeth then chances are good that you are considering whether or not dental implants could restore your smile and replace your missing teeth. Of course, our New Haven, CT, dentist Dr. Francesco Maratta believes that the most important thing is to provide patients with an effective and great looking dental treatment. This is why we are proud to offer metal-free dental implants.
Why should I choose white dental implants?
Instead of being made from titanium, metal-free implants are made from a tooth-colored ceramic. Those with thin or receding gums may sometimes be able to see the titanium implant at the gum line; however, this won’t be an issue when you get ceramic dental implants. The tooth-colored material ensures that you achieve natural results.
Another major benefit is that those with metal sensitivity can also get dental implants without worrying about any health issues. This is because our metal-free implants are hypoallergenic, which means that even those who are sensitive to metal can get this long-term tooth replacement without dealing with any problems. In the past, those with metal allergies often faced complications such as bone loss and implant failure. Metal-free implants mean that now more people can turn to implants to replace their missing teeth without having to worry about their allergies.
Just like a traditional metal implant, our ceramic implants are also biocompatible. This means that once our New Haven, CT, dentist places the implant into the jawbone, the bone and implant will still fuse together to become one permanent unit. Once the implant melds together with bone and tissue this implant could end up lasting several decades. Ceramic is also extremely tough and durable, which also increases the success rate and longevity of your new tooth.
Lastly, with the incredible advancements in dental technology, Zirconia implants can now be placed in a less invasive surgical manner than traditional implants. With the Trios Intraoral Scanner Dr. Maratta is able to take a digital impression of your teeth and jaws and provide an accurate image. This is a quick process and there is no need for messy impressions like in the past. This allows for an accurate picture that provides a guideline for the placement of the implant. This results in a faster recovery period and less discomfort. In fact, white or Zirconia implants can sometimes be placed immediately after a tooth extraction rather than waiting for the area to heal completely.

Are you currently in the dating game? Looking for a way to up your ante and boost your appearance? Then it may be time to put your smile under the old microscope. If you are dealing with missing teeth, chances are good you are rather embarrassed by your smile. Fortunately, our New Haven, CT, prosthodontist, Dr. Franceso Maratta, can turn all this around for you. Find out how dental implants could revamp your dating appeal.
A dental implant may not look like much of anything but this small metal post actually takes the place of your missing tooth roots. While the roots may not seem like an important component, you would be surprised just how necessary they are to a healthy smile. After all, without tooth roots the rest of your teeth will shift out of alignment to fill the gap left over by your missing tooth. Furthermore, the jawbone will also start to deteriorate, which can alter the structure of your face.
Once you are deemed a good candidate for implants the first step will be to place the implant into the jawbone. First and foremost our New Haven dental implant specialist will need to drill a small hole into the jawbone where the implant will be placed. This entire surgery can easily and painlessly be performed under local anesthesia. Once the implant is in the jawbone we will stitch the gums back up and allow your mouth ample time to heal.
During the healing process, a rather extraordinary thing will happen: the implant and the jawbone will naturally meld together to become one. This can take a few months for this to occur. Once the jawbone and implant have completely fused together, we can complete the rest of the implant procedure.
The next step is to open up the gums once more and place another structure known as an abutment over the implant. The purpose of the abutment is to be able to link the implant with the dental crown or other restorative prosthetic. If you only need to replace one tooth then a dental crown will be all that’s needed, but if you want to replace multiple teeth, several implants will be placed along the jawbone to support partial or full dentures.
Once the abutment is placed and the gums have healed we will then place the dental crown or other dental restoration over the implant to complete your new dental work.
